Dive Isla Verde – Center of the Center of Marine Shorefish Biodiversity

Verde Island Passage is a strait that separates the islands of Luzon and Mindoro, connecting the South China Sea with the Tayabas Bay and the Sibuyan Sea beyond. It is one of the busiest sea lanes in the Philippines because it is the main shipping route between the Port of Manila and the Visayas and Mindanao in the south. Also many ferries navigate the waters, connecting the surrounding provinces of BatangasMarinduqueOccidental MindoroOriental Mindoro and Romblon.

The eponymous Verde Island, located right in the center of the strait, is one of the best diving places in the Philippines due to its pristine clear waters and nice under water view. Daily trips for scuba divers are made from Puerto Galera.

Dive Oslob and Mactan

Oslob has been included in the diving map in the advent of the whaleshark sighting in the area.

Two schools of thought have emerged when whaleshark “eco-tour” brought this little town in the headlines.

Conservationists are not a big fan of the disturbance of the natural behavior of these gentle giants because of the feeding done by fishermen to lure them nearshore. The other view is to promote awareness with this interaction which in the long run will help preserve these species. The government and other civic groups have stepped in to balance the differing perspectives.
